Capture The Flag (CTF) Participation

If you're reading this and don't know what a CTF is, it is a cybersecurity version of a traditional Capture The Flag competition. But to put it simply, a CTF is:

a type of information security competition in a gamified format that covers topics such as cryptography, steganography, binary analysis, reverse engineering, mobile security, and much more.

As an aspiring cybersecurity professional, I know that I lack hands-on real-world work experience. After researching ways to gain hands-on experience, and asking well-respected security professionals their opinions, participating in CTFs was highly recommended by all of them.

One of the best videos I've watched covering this topic is from Ed Skoudis, someone in the industry I look up to very much. He goes over a TON of resources for all things CTFs:

My plan is to showcase the CTFs I participate in by creating write-ups via my Blog. I will tag each CTF related blog post with "CTF", that way visitors can quickly parse my blog entries specific to my CTF participation. Additionally, I'll even create a CTF blog category to make it even easier to navigate.

My goal is to use these write-ups as a way to show potential employers that I'm passionate about security, that I've taken the initiative to proactively gain hands-on experience, and to contribute back to the security community by providing write-ups on my experiences. These write-ups will follow the following format:

- Brief overview of the event

- A debrief of the experience related to my personal growth

- Walk throughs of challenges I completed written in a way that followed my thought processes

Stay tuned!
